Review:
I was fortunate to see this film earlier than most. To me, it looks like Anderson really hit their stride with this. It was strange to me that when the student theater, is what I wonder about most of all what the hell is he gonna do next! The Master is not an easy film to sit through, and sometimes you do not even know what the movie does. But then you realize that the movie does not mean anything. All it takes is for you to observe. More so than his previous films, the master and there will be blood really venture into the realm of film as a purely cinematic presentation of a lifetime. Anderson did not pass any judgment or point of view, stretch it simply fabric that allows his character to speak for themselves. Yes, it is a beginning, middle and end of one, but is it? we really have a sense of renewal at the end there will be blood? or we simply understand a little better? Anderson insisted he said, so Im sure it would say the same thing about this film, which will have been without a metaphor for anything. It was what it was. No mystery, no subtitle sophisticated and often formulated. People read simply. As Hoffman's character says in the trailer for the Master - But above all, I am a man.The film is an idea of the interesting leader in the account master soldier, vs. slavery. It breaks down the anatomy of a relationship that you can interpret his words in any way youd like. Its beautifully shot on 65/70mm film that is as I see it and how I record pray for you see it if you get a chance. Feeling almost like Anderson, giving the finger to the digital revolution by shooting the film on a resolution so high that digital can only dream of getting it in about ten years or jump. The acting and dialogue are superb as you'd expect. Phoenix and Hoffman is on another level here, especially in Phoenix a role of a lifetime. There are definitely occasions in this film as it disappeared into the role. There are also some great supporting work from Laura Dern and others. It would be hard to put this film on his work. More than anything, it feels like a natural continuation of what he started with, it becomes blood. Not to say that it continues on this path, but just that it's definitely a movie more focused than some of the earlier work with him. I found it to be less engaging than some of the work lotl, and again there was never a dull moment. You're always on your toes, try to understand what is happening and where the film leads you. It's really simple, just like humans, a fascinating work.
