Review:
When first seeing the trailer I was immediately dizzy to see the style of The Road Warrior. A new post-apocalyptic movie Become a fan of the genre, it takes some getting used so prominently used in solitary wanderer recurrent theme. I thought this movie was going the same formula, but willing to myself.Yes did with the lone wanderer as a plot device to enjoy driving, but brought touch arbitrary. Yes all survivors are in short t-shirts, but live in a wealth of leather and goggles. Yes everything in this movie looks like a typical post-apocalyptia. But the essence of the story is much more powerful than I could have ever expected.Without give much, so the film is essentially a Christian metaphor. Eli seems to be protected by a mysterious force, led by God to the west. But what is the meaning behind this admittedly bizarre plot that makes this film so great. It's really a film about faith and believing in ones self. Using the bleak post-apocalyptic setting, the film is able to contrast this powerful message with the rugged landscape. Even amidst so much despair, you can get up and accomplish anything. In a world slowly becoming apocalyptic itself, this message is very welcomed.The other aspects that lend the power of The Book of Eli the technical aspects. The photography is simply stunning. Moody slo-mo shots filled with beautiful color tones. Everything looks dark and death, the sun beating incessantly dunes dust. The soundtrack adds a lot to this feeling, with soft ambient chords and drums action explosion scene when needed. Globally The Book of Eli is an excellent film itself and a great twist on the post-apocalyptic genre. Oh yeah, and Denzel Washington actually manages to take the part of a wrinkled, old bad ass.
